Isn't it funny how our calendars fill up like crazy during the holidays? It's not even Thanksgiving yet and the season is already in full swing, which for me provokes a great deal of anxiety. Already on our calendar are attending family dinners and parties, jazz concerts, the NYC Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker, and this year Joe and I are looking to move apartments in December too, which just adds to the craziness. With what feels like a suffocating calendar full of fun events, the only way I can truly enjoy the season is by focusing on the moment and calming my anxiety. Here's a easy breathing meditation from Dr. Andrew Weil that I incorporate into my day. Hope it helps you, too!
Cait Kiernan, Beauty Expert & Author of Pretty Sick: The Beauty Guide for Women with Cancer
I first met Cait about ten years ago when I was a beauty editor at Cosmopolitan magazine. At the time she was a beauty editor at Life & Style, and I looked up to her as she seemed to have it all figured out. She's always been supportive of my freelance career and I'm incredibly proud of what she's accomplished during the past few years. Now a cancer survivor, Cait utilized her relationships in beauty and personal experience to help others fight their battles while looking and feeling their best by writing "Pretty Sick: The Beauty Guide for Women with Cancer." At her book launch party, she said, "This was never about me writing a book. This was about me wanting to help others." And that's exactly the type of person Cait is – selfless. Here, she speaks to her journey and gives valuable life advice.
Field Trip: Skylands Animal Sanctuary
It was January of 2016 when I first heard of Skylands Animal Sanctuary in Wantage, NJ and visiting has been on my bucket list ever since. This past weekend, Joe and I had the opportunity to take a tour of the sanctuary given by the Founder, Mike, who's one of my heroes. You can only imagine how excited I was as he began to tell his story and the stories of all of the rescued animals that he treats as children. Founded in January 2015, the 232 acre property is now home to animals he personally rescued including cows, goats, pigs, chickens, even a bull and more.
What Happened? Why? What Can We Do?
Yesterday, when I woke up to the horrific news about Las Vegas, I felt numb. In shock, I didn't feel the deep, heartbreaking sadness that I felt when hearing of mass shootings in the past right away. It took me time to process the reality of what happened and today, I'm there – heartbroken. I can't put forward another post promoting a TV segment or telling you about my favorite new skincare products without addressing what's heavy on all of our hearts. Writing is therapeutic for me and if anything, I'm not embarrassed to put my thoughts and feelings out there as I know some of you are feeling the same way.
Permission to Pause in Order to Thrive
I feel extremely fortunate to have grown up during a time without the Internet and everything that comes with it. Remember before we were on AIM, before we had cell phones and before carefully crafting our MySpace profiles, things were a lot simpler. We actually had to wait by our phones if we were expecting a call, and I don't know about you, but I loved recording my voicemail with the help of Gwen Stefani. Back then, Cosmopolitan magazine was the authority for my friends and I and MTV music videos were the ultimate form of entertainment. It's amazing how much has changed in really, so little time.

Hurricane Harvey: How You Can Help
The tragedy in Texas has been unbearable to even watch on the news. Each day that passes, I sit and wish I could be of more help, and even though I've donated, I still feel helpless. I'm sure if you're reading this, then you feel the same way. Besides the misplaced people and animals, looting is happening and the entire situation seems to be out of control despite all of the relief efforts. It's going to take a long time for the community to rebuild and get their feet back on the ground. There are many ways you can help through donations and here are the ones that caught my eye.
3 Wellness Lessons I Learned at Canyon Ranch + A Travel Diary
Two years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Massachusetts for the first time. My best friend, Adrienne, and I found the experience exceeded our expectations and we came back to NYC energized, restored and inspired. If you follow me or Canyon Ranch on Instagram (I took over their account), then you saw that I had the recent opportunity to go back for round two. With work out clothes and notebooks, Adrienne and I eagerly hopped in the car.
